A huge plume of dust originating from the Sahara dims the sky over the Algarve
Thursday, 23 February 2017 | Weather

When we opened the front door this morning we did not believe our eyes: the car and everthing around was covered with a fine yellow-red sand, and the Algarvian sky was dimmed by a huge plume of dust.

As the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) reports, the reason for this phenomenon is an area of low pressure over Morocco, transporting sand from the Sahara to the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula.
